Description

San Diego, CA – San Diego Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Jordan Marks is reminding flood survivors and property owners impacted by the 2024 winter storm, that they could qualify for property tax relief, but time is running out. Qualified property owners can have their upcoming property tax payment deferred without interest or penalty until the property is rebuilt. Applications to defer the April 10th property tax bill you must filed by April 10, 2024 at 5 p.m.

To qualify for property tax reduction: Homeowners or commercial property owners must have at least $10,000 in damage to their home or commercial property due to the winter storm. Property taxes are reduced until the property is restored to its condition it was in before the storm damage.

To qualify for property tax deferral:  San Diego Homeowners must have at least $10,000 in damage to their homes and pay their property taxes directly to the County of San Diego Treasurer-Tax Collector and not through a mortgage impound account. Commercial property owners, all properties not a primary residence, must have at least a 20% loss of value to their property and not pay their property taxes through an impound account. Filed their property tax reduction application with the deferral request option by Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 5 p.m.

Assessor Jordan Marks said, “My office is proactively doing everything possible to provide San Diego County flood survivors the maximum amount of property tax relief possible.” Marks continued, “We want them to focus their resources on repairing and rebuilding their homes, and not their upcoming property tax bills.” Assessor Marks thanked the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for recently approving the Assessor’s proposed ordinance on February 27, 2024 authorizing deferral of property tax payments for properties damaged during the winter storm.

Both property tax relief opportunities are on the same easy online one-page application at www.sdarcc.gov. Assessor Marks says, "If you’re unsure if you qualify, when in doubt fill it out.”
